How helpful is a weekly average blood sugar value? Presenting progress to patients in a more meaningful way.
One of the first projects I took on at Gather Health was a redesign of the blood sugar chart in the Gather Health patient app. The existing chart was quite basic, showing only a weekly average over the last 8 weeks.
Plotting individual blood sugar data points (the smaller dots) along with the average
Color-coding the data points to show whether they were inside the patient's target range
Showing the actual target range both in the chart and as a label
Adding a dropdown to look at mealtimes separately, and to separate before-meal readings from after-meal readings. For diabetics, a daily blood sugar average is not that helpful because values before and after meals tend to fluctuate a lot
Showing the appropriate target range for before-meal and after-meal readings
